Pascal Renaud
A trained economist and computer scientist, Pascal Renaud now carries out research on the stakes involved in ICTs in developing countries at the IRD’s Knowledge and Development Research Unit.
Since 1985, at Orstom (now IRD, Institut de Recherche pour le Développement) he acted as coordinator for the installation of a TCP/IP network between the Institute’s various centres, first in France and then in French-speaking African countries and centres in the Pacific and West Indies. This project took on a political dimension when African research organizations and international NGOs were also connected and with the contribution which this network made to the Earth Summit in 1992.
From 1995 to 2004, he was seconded to UNITAR, the UN Agency for management training in developing countries, where he headed the Information Society and Development Programme.
