Sally Burch
Independent journalist from Great Britain, Sally Burch has lived in Ecuador since 1983. She is Executive Director of the Agencia Latinoamericana de Información (ALAI). She has published numerous articles on communication and new technologies and is co-author of Movimientos Sociales en la Red (ALAI, 2001) and “Se cayó el sistema”: Enredos de la Sociedad de la Información (ALAI, 2003).
From 1990 and 1993, she was responsible for the creation of the first electronic mail node for the Ecuadorian network, Ecuanex. From 1993 to 1995 she was World Coordinator for the Women’s Networks Support Programme for the Association for Progressive Communications (APC), a pioneering initiative aiming at encouraging women to use the Internet, for the UN’s 4th International Women’s Conference. From 2001 to 2003, she was Coordinator for the Civil Society Working Group on Content and Themes for WSIS, organized by the UN. She has a degree in literature from the University of Warwick (Great Britain) and a diploma in journalism from the Concordia University (Montreal, Canada).
