Director of FUNREDES, the Network and Development association for the promotion of Internet in the Caribbean, Daniel Pimienta has participated in the management of virtual communities, training of users, creation of information resources, and negotiation of mutual benefit agreements with Internet access providers.

Prior to this, and after a career as telecommunications systems architect for IBM in France and later in the USA, he was appointed Scientific Advisor to the Union Latine in Santo Domingo and then Bureau Director of the REDALC (Latin American and Caribbean Network) Project. He is heavily involved in the dissemination of ICTs in developing countries, particularly in education and research and development.
